Can You Safely Put Calphalon Pans in the Oven?

Can You Put Calphalon Lids in the Oven?

A lot of Calphalon pans come with a lid that is made out of tempered glass so you can monitor your food while it cooks.

The glass undergoes a thermal tempering process to make it four times stronger than traditional glass.

You’ll find tempered glass in shower doors, car windows, and glass tabletops too. Due to the tempering process, you can put the lids into the oven up to 450-degrees Fahrenheit.

The lids on the Select by Calphalon and Simply Calphalon collection can go into the oven up to 400-degrees Fahrenheit without damage.

The temperatures are lower because they feature lid handles that come wrapped in silicone that can melt at higher temperatures.

Can You Put Calphalon Pans on Broil in the Oven?

Any nonstick cookware from this line isn’t safe to put on broil since the coating can’t handle a direct flame from the broiler.

The coating could start to degrade after a few minutes, rendering the cookware useless, and contaminate your food with fumes. Also, putting your nonstick pans from this brand under the broiler will instantly void the warranty.

However, almost all stainless steel Calphalon pans are safe to put under the broiler with the exception of the Select by Calphalon and the Simply Calphalon lines.

Even though they have a stainless steel design, they also have a silicone wrapping on their handles that can only withstand temperatures up to 400-degrees Fahrenheit before breaking down.

You should be very cautious when you broil with any pan, and you should limit the broiling time as much as possible with a 10-minute maximum.

The hot flames can scorch the pan and burn the food, and this could warp it and make it harder to clean. The lids are also not safe to put under the broiler.

Nonstick Pan Concerns

The concerns about these types of pans come from the facts surrounding petroleum-based Teflon.

This type of coating can break down under high temperatures, and this can lead it to release toxic fumes that can make people sick and kill birds.

Are Calphalon Pan Handles Safe for the Oven?

As much as the manufacturer assures you that the pans themselves are safe to put in the oven, you have to know whether or not the handles are.

Plastic handles will melt under higher temperatures, and any stay-cool handles will only work on the stovetop and not in the oven.

Phenolic handles are the only ones that can withstand higher temperatures, and you should always check the temperature rating before you stick anything in the oven to avoid it melting and making a mess.
